One Year of Alpine Dispatches
It's been a wild ride so far, thanks for sticking it out. In this post I reflect on the year that's been and share some thoughts on the path ahead for this publication. Also, some questions for YOU!
I still remember making the commitment, one year ago.
To write and share a blog post every week as the earth makes one rotation around the big fireball in the sky.
I can’t believe that milestone has actually arrived.
Wild.
To each and every one of you, a massive thank you 🍻!
As I was preparing to write this anniversary article, I thought it would be interesting to see which posts were more popular.
Curiosity, mostly.
Also, I am wrestling with some potential changes to Alpine Dispatches in terms of the content going forward (nothing too major!), and I was hoping the information may help in that regard.

A Lot Has Happened on Here Since the Start:
I revamped my photography website
We travelled to Greece
I started a podcast
Shared my Namib Naukluft hiking story.
Had an interesting winter in the Swiss Alps
And so much more.
Thoughts On The Path Going Forward:
I need your help!
I created and started writing on Alpine Dispatches because I wanted a way to share about and/or my photography.
Things have changed a bit.
As we progressed, I realised that I also love sharing about where we live here in the Swiss Alps, combined with the images from adventures / outings. Actually, the adventures and a look into life here in the quite upper Simmental Valley have been well received.
So, maybe my original intention with Alpine Dispatches was just the catalyst for something completely different, but better?
You see, I’m an ex professional photographer who was looking for a way to keep sharing photography in a more lasting, meaningful way than social media (now that we have moved continents and I have a “normal” job). But over the last 52 weeks of writing and sharing here on Alpine Dispatches, I started seeing the potential to make it a little hub showcasing the awesomeness of the region where we live.
What do you think?
So, this leaves me with a few questions for you (if you’d be so kind).
First, about AD in general:
Then, about the Everyday Awesomeness Podcast:
Final Thoughts:
Even though I love sharing about photography, I think Alpine Dispatches may have taken on a life of its own.
And to keep sharing photography editing techniques the one week, then about spring cycling with the family the next, is pulling things in two different directions.
Not ideal.
So my thinking is to evolve things here into more of a visual journal of life in the Swiss Alps, along with local tips and guides where possible.
Photography / images will still be involved, make no mistake.
The main focus will just shift a bit to sharing (visually) about life (out/indoor) here in the Upper Simmental, Gstaad / Saanenland region of Switzerland.
In other words, where we live.
Who knows, maybe you want to visit one day and need to know where to go :) ?
What to expect:
Image sets from outings (cycling / trail running / ski touring / etc.)
Tips and guides from a local perspective (where to ski, snow conditions, bike routes, kids play area, etc.)
Great finds (bakery / coffee spot / picnic spot / lake / bike or ski shop / etc.)
Maybe a section for the wife to share some local traditions / food?!
Once again, thanks for joining me on this journey.
Here’s looking forward to many more!
