The Lauenensee, Have You Been?

We have quite a few lakes here where we live (a "see" in German), of which the Lauenensee (Lake of Lauenen) is well worth a visit - on foot or by (gravel) bicycle.

As we progress through a rainy summer so far, the local lakes are well worth a visit - the Lauenensee is no exception.

Wether it’s sunny or a bit cloudy (as it was on this occasion).

And that can be on foot or by bicycle.

We were on our gravel bikes for another lunchtime ride, as it happened to be.

It never stops being beautiful when you roll over the last climb and the lake reveals itself as you descend towards it between a multitude of colourful flowers (in Spring- / Summertime).

It’s actually two lakes, one larger and one smaller one, in case you didn’t know.

But it’s referred to as one, mostly (as I have it!).

Anyway, it’s a damn fine (and fun) ride on the bike or hike on foot in Summer.

In Winter there are many a ski tour that starts and finishes here, as the lake is frozen and the surrounding landscape is covered in a thick blanket of snow.

Lastly, as is the way of the Swiss mountain traditions, there is a little restaurant, or “Beizli”, on the side of the lake. As no hike or bike ride will be complete without stopping for lunch, accompanied with some white wine or beer (as you prefer).

Unfortunately not for us, on this occasion, as we had to get back to work.
