Just Start (Yes, It's Worth It)
Since I've started my "The Weekly Edit" series, it's been a constant learning curve with some unexpected benefits - let me explain.
Overthinking is something I’m often guilty of.
And then I talk myself out of doing the thing.
Whatever it may be / may have been.
Take my (fairly) new “The Weekly Edit” series where I explore different photo editing programs.
Initially I thought:
Am I good enough in using them?
I should be an expert, otherwise it’s not worth it.
It must be flawless demonstration or people will think I don’t know anything (I don’t, mostly, but I’m good at learning).
What if it doesn't work?
But then I remembered something.
What?
Glad you asked.
It’s this:
Just start and figure it out along the way.
You see, we often make the mistake of wanting everything to be clear right from the start.
But that is rarely the case.
So, I decided to turn my thought process on its head and approached my edit series from a completely different perspective.
That of learning along the way:
I’m no expert
I’m learning by doing
Showing my errors and how I correct them
In other words, building in public.
And you know what?
It’s been awesome!
Not only am I learning more about each program as I edit in them (something I do in my spare time in anyway), people are actually finding it useful.
Which in turn reminded me of some advice I’ve come across a few times.
Which is this:
Always remember that there is someone two or three steps behind you in their learning curve, so don’t think you have nothing to teach / share.
All of this is to say that, whatever you’re thinking of starting but haven’t for fears similar to mine, just start and figure it out along the way.
It’s one of the highly underrated life skills.
Haven’t seen my weekly edit series?
