Which Camera Is Best?
Between all the megapixel talk and sensor size discussions, it may come as a shock which camera tops the list.
I find myself internally debating this age old question periodically.
And you know what I’ve concluded?
Let me spare you the suspense:
The best camera is the one that helps convey the message you want to get across.
To tell your story.
To help people feel that moment.
Should it be a $6500 medium format DSLR?
Perhaps.
Can it be a 1” sensor bridge camera?
Most certainly.
What about a tiny sensor phone camera?
But of course.
Maybe a cheap second hand film / digital slr?
You bet.
What is the important part, then, you may ask?
Well, quite simply, it is for us to make and share those images from our experiences.
If you want to, of course.
It’s not compulsory.
I just find, for me, besides writing about it, sharing images from places and/or experiences is something beautiful.
And quite often these days it is images made with my iPhone.
How so?
Because it is what I have with me (my Nikon D810 only comes with on dedicated photography outings).
But you know what?
The little rectangle in which we compose an image remains the same, regardless of camera used.
As I’ve written, in fact, in only my second post here on Alpine Dispatches:
And now, more than 70 posts later, I am re-realising the same thing.
Again.
Probably will in future too.
And that’s ok.
It’s almost always a timely reminder that using what I have, rather than what I’d like to have, to get the message across is perfectly fine.
Even better for it, I’d argue.
But what do I know?
That’s it for this week!
