My wife lives in Switzerland for a handful of years before we met. She absolutely loved it. I’ve not been yet but I can’t wait to go. Really looking forward to going in Summer if possible and seeing those colours
Apart from a few border crossings when staying in Austria, so far we have only traversed through Switzerland on our way to/from Italy, but I'm always finding it takes a bit of time (from Basel) before you get to be surrounded by the *actual* mountains (must be around Lucerne/Vierwaldstättersee). However, this year we crossed through via Kandersteg and Brig (to avoid the stau at Gotthard) and it was really breathtaking (the weather played along ;-)
Haha, yes the traffic through the Gotthard tunnel can be terrible! What you could do also, and what we’ve done, is take a left before Gotthard and head up and over the Nufenenpass - one of, if not the highest, passes in Switzerland. Beautiful drive 👌🏽

As I’m sure your wife would be able to tell you, it’s definitely worth it to go, summer and winter have very different draw factors 🏃🏽⛷️
