Spring Ski Touring After Work and In the Daylight (Winning!)
With winter back after last week's cold spell, there have been a few more ski touring possibilities closer to home - for now.
The sun is setting a bit later in the evenings, as well as rising a bit earlier in the mornings here in the mountains as we head further into spring.
But I’m not done with ski tour just yet.
In fact, the great thing about the longer daylight hours is that I can do some early morning / late afternoon ski tours when it is still light enough without neading a headlamp.
As you may recall, in mid-winter I often start my ski tours when it is still pitch dark, for example here.
This week, however, I was fortunate to head out on a ski tour after work (17:30) and in proper daylight.
Why?
Well, as you may recall from last week, we had a cold spell that brought a nice amount of snow with it.
Plus, it stayed cold for a bit afterwards, which is good for the snow quality.
Not quite as cold as I would have liked, mind you.
But then again, this late into spring, I’m not going to complain.
So, I headed out on a pleasant late afternoon / early evening ski tour like you would head out on a post work bike ride, I suppose.
(How worlds differ depending on where you find yourself always fascinates me)
I was not the only one with this bright idea, however.
As I was heading out, a few other people - also clearly not ready to give up on winter - joined me on the mountain.
So, with one party further up, two further down and me in the middle, I was perfectly placed to capture some images that show the scale of the our mountains.
A win for the week in my book:
Ski tour after work, check.
In daylight? Check.
Making images of the landscape and the ski touring people in it, check.
Now, all I need is for this to happen every week… :)
