Seasons of Change

Change is in the air here in the upper Simmental Valley of Switzerland.

One thing that is very evident is that the earth is still rotating and tilting on its axis, predictably bringing about changes in temperature.

In our case it is colder weather.

The first snow has fallen higher up (a while ago actually).

It was such a large front that people were already able to go free ride skiing in Austria.

In September.

Crazy (I’m jealous too).

Hopefully that bodes well for our winter, as last winter was not great snow wise for the resorts.

It is also a bit of an in between time.

Mornings are cold (sometimes minus temperatures), but the day can warm up to the mid teens (15 / 16 °C) - which can feel like much warmer weather due to the contrast with the cold morning.

Activities follow accordingly.

Indoors in the mornings, outside in the afternoons.

Our son collecting flowers in the garden and on the lawn on a “balmy” 15°C afternoon.

It’s also a time where:

• businesses are preparing for winter

• people change from summer tires to winter tires on cars

• the cows are brought down from the mountains to the village

• Etc.

And if possible you take a quick two week holiday to the far south of Italy or France to enjoy the last bit of summer.

But if you’re me?

Well, you start to look forward to the approaching winter and all the skiing / ski touring, of course!

There is also a lot of change happening behind the scenes, but more on that at a later stage - much more to come!
